Metanoeite: Greek meaning of “repent”
After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee preaching the gospel of God and said: “The time is fulfilled and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel” (Mk 1:14-15). The word of the original text, μετανοειτε, does not indicate, as it was sometimes translated before, a penance. Nor does it still moralistically mean in some ways a conversion, a change with our non-existent strength. As we then passed in many cases to read. It works by welcoming the gift, to the extent that it is bestowed upon us by the Lord, of perceiving beyond. The kingdom of heaven is near, enjoy this wonderful grace and let it always carry you further.
A love of God that fills our hearts in a crescendo, the gradual renewal of all our humanity, of our deep heart, of our most deeply rooted cultural settings. When Jesus begins to manifest himself more fully in our existence, infinite horizons of new life open up. For us and for others, in us and in a new openness, in the Spirit, to exchange with others: the kingdom of God. So Christ comes at the right time to open our hearts with discretion and delicacy, to measure, to the trust, to hope, in his almighty love. Trust, hope, in a beyond. Don’t get stuck in the situation as we see it. Pray, trust, hope, in a beyond of God, of life, of human relationships, that you didn’t expect. If God peeps into your existence, if you have been given faith, the kingdom of heaven has drawn near.
